ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday again adjourned the hearing of review petition of the convict in the killing of Sadeq Ganji, the director general of Iranian Consulate in Lahore.
Haq Nawaz, member of a religious extremist group, Sipah-e Sahaba, was earlier convicted, by several courts, in the killing case of Mr. Ganji. However, he appealed to the Supreme Court, asking it to review his case.
Mr. Ganji was gunned down in Lahore some years ago.
An official of the Supreme Court told IRNA's Islamabad office from Lahore that the next hearing of the case will be heard on September 13.
He also said that the hearing will be held in Islamabad, instead of Lahore.
The Pakistani chief justice had recently ordered the courts to dispose off cases of the killing of Iranian nationals at the earliest.
About eleven Iranians have been killed in different cities of Pakistan during the last several years.
Though a number of the killers have been identified and convicted by the courts, yet their punishment has so far not been carried out in the face of complicated nature of judicial system in Pakistan.
The present military government of General Pervez Musharraf intends to change this system to ensure speedy justice to the people.
